A FL Geek’s Weekend

This weekend, you have no excuse to sit inside in front of your Xbox.  There are three major events happening and all involve zombies.

First there is Tampa Bay Comic Con happening from 10am-6pm Saturday, and 10am-4pm Sunday for $10, where Chandler Riggs otherwise known as Carl from The Walking Dead will be.  You can go just to tell him to stay in the house, or prison now as of the third season.  Along with some great animators, artist and voice talents there will be a costume contest with a cash prize for the winner.  You don’t even have to socialize, you can be in costume, though a few hellos may good for you.

Or if you feel like being generous and are ok with being surrounded by Zombies, there is Zombiecon in Fort Meyers. The entrance fee is $25 for Saturday, and $15 for Sunday. Every entrance fee is donated to the non-profit organization for the arts called, Pushing DaiZies.  You can attend the Saturday Night ZombieCon Street Fest, which is FREE with donation of canned food or giving blood.  Madison Lintz, also known as The Walking Dead’s Sophia will be there. Look for the Walk Like a Zombie workshop and try to find the Day of The Dead Cast Panel.

If you’d rather sleep in and stay up late I’d suggest going to Universal Studios Horror Nights.  Tickets are a bit pricier, but a FL resident can get a Saturday ticket for $67 or Sunday for $42.  They have houses themed with AMC’s The Walking Dead, Silent Hill, Alice Cooper’s Welcome to my Nightmare and a Bill and Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure show!  That’s if you can make it across the park, because they have creatures of the night roaming around waiting for you.

Make a weekend out of it, go to two or try all three if you are not buried in school debt.  Get some fresh air and take some time away from sitting in front of the television.  Good luck!

While acquiring a BA in Media Communications, I had the good fortune to take a few amazing Superhero and Comic Book courses. I also started a Zombie Awareness and Survival club, so students from diverse majors could survive the school year together. https://twitter.com/Geekurheartout
