History of Knightrokon

Knightrokon is an anime convention in its second year, run by the Anime Spot club at the University of Central Florida.

Roberto Ramos, President of Anime Spot, Diana Galvin, Vice President (and former President) of Anime Spot, Jordan Cina, Anime Spot’s treasurer, Ashley Rudolph, Anime Spot’s secretary and Sarah McNulty, Anime Spot member, all came together to bring this event to life in early 2011.

It involved a lot of research, not just hours on Google looking up how this would even be possible, but also talking to various members of the Florida convention community, the UCF community and a personal friend or two to find out how to make this work.

Summer of 2011, the Anime Spot officers announced Knightrokon to the club with a grand reveal – and that reveal was about the biggest dud the club had ever experienced.

Fortunately, the club was on board by the fall, and everything started falling into place. More than a few groups were interested in running events at the convention. Many prospective guests were contacted, and with the help of some friends, Knightrokon proudly had Kyle Hebert and Wendee Lee as guests of honor their first year.

The first Knightrokon took place March 3, 2012 in the student union in the University of Central Florida with the goal of bringing together the anime community and the UCF community, along with bringing quality guests and events to a Florida convention.

Since March, changes have been made in the convention involving the staff, the groups volunteering and prospective guests. More changes will certainly unfold between now and then, and the convention will adapt, as it always has.

While the first year was successful, the second year promises to be even better. Knightrokon will be held in the student union again for its second year, but this time will be two days instead of just one. There will be more, bigger events, more guests, a bigger dealer room and more to look forward to in June 2013.

Anime Spot

We are Anime Spot, a club here at UCF dedicated to anime, conventions and gaming.

We have been around since 2006, when the student organization was registered by Austin Otocki.

We are a highly active club in the Central Florida area. Anyone is welcome to come by our events and meetings. We make a point to have a wide variety of events and show a wide variety of anime.

We hold events such as Murder Mystery Night, Whose Line is it Anime, Video Game Night with LANKnights and GameStop, hangouts on campus almost every month and weekly viewing meetings. We also hold AMV, costume, drawing and trivia contests, and we occasionally do events with other local anime clubs.

At MegaCon 2011, we ran panels such as Whose Line is it Anime and Durarara!! the Panel. We also ran a panel about anime clubs with Propeller Anime Club. We spread the word about our club to anyone who would listen, with more than 50 of our members in attendance. Whose Line is it Anime was a major success that we plan to build off of.

And now, we are bringing you Knightrokon.

Knightrokon will be located in the Studunt Union of the University of Central Florida.

The Student Union calls itself the heart of the campus, and this
campus has a big heart. It is full of room for panels, room for
people, and food that even college students find affordable. We could
not have asked for a better space to host a convention.

We will have more details on what restaurants will be open closer to
the event. Inside of the Student Union itself, there are restaurants
like Burger King, Qdoba, Subway, and many more. There are also many
restaurants on campus and within walking distance.
