Over 5.7 Million Comics to be Given Away at Free Comic Book Day 2017

The six stores that make up Central Florida’s Coliseum of Comics chain are just a few of the thousands of comic book shops around the world celebrating the largest event in the comic book industry, Free Comic Book Day (FCBD). More than 2,300 comic book retailers worldwide are preparing to give away over 5.7 million comics this weekend.

“The extensive selection of comic books being published today ensures that readers of all ages — children, teens, and adults – and all walks of life can find something appropriate to not only entertain, but possibly also to educate and inspire them,” said Coliseum of Comics CEO Phil Boyle.

The comic books available this year are designed to appeal to a broad range of tastes, including super hero stories like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Secret Empire, DC’s Wonder Woman, and Valiant’s X-O Manowar; kid favorites that are great for readers of all ages with DC Super Hero Girls, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Barbie; stories that feature classic characters such as Betty & Veronica and Underdog; and TV tie-ins featuring series like Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Avatar, Riverdale, Star Trek, Disney’s Descendants, and many more.

“Free Comic Book Day is shaping up to be quite an event,” said FCBD spokesperson Michael Moccio. “With such a broad range of titles this year tying into major properties like Guardians of the Galaxy, Wonder Woman, Rick & Morty, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, new and existing fans alike will find something they’ll want to keep up with throughout 2017.”

Many hit television, video game, motion picture and book properties have made a leap the other direction into comics, with graphic adaptations and additions to the worlds of Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, and Firefly series. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the latest addition to the expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe, hits the big screen in the United States on May 5th, a day before Free Comic Book Day.

This is the 16th year the Coliseum chain will celebrate FCBD, offering the community a fun, family-oriented event where everyone can find a comic they’ll enjoy. Free Comic Book Day will run throughout the day on May 6th at all six Coliseum of Comics locations. In addition to special sales, scheduled activities at the locations will include:
