Elder Scrolls Online Screenshots Eerily Similar to World of Warcraft

Zenimax Studios (the parent company of Bethesda Games, creators of The Elder Scrolls series) announced The Elder Scrolls Online, the fantasy franchise’s first MMORPG to be released sometime next year.

Less than a few weeks since the announcement, the first images on the new massively multiplayer online RPG make it look uneasily similar to that other MMORPG that’s been around for over seven years now.

Take a look at the screenshots of the game and see if you get that uneasy feeling too:

The Elder Scrolls Online will take place in the fictional continent of Tamriel and feature a storyline not connected with the other games.

Not a screenshot of The Elder Scrolls Online, but the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion Mists of Pandaria (for comparison).

Given a limited handful of screenshots and details released, it’s tough to say  if The Elder Scrolls Online will be successful. The series’ latest release The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim received nothing but praise from fans and critics since its release last year.

WoW-esque screenshots or not, let’s hope Bethesda succeeds at making yet another truly enriching addition to their fantasy series.
