James Cameron was going to direct Jurassic Park

According to James Cameron he was in the running to direct the original Jurassic Park. The film was directed by Stephen Spielberg instead, but Cameron claims that his version of the classic would have been a “much nastier” dinosaur tale.

So it’s probably not something we would have taken our kids to see then. His thoughts on the matter are intriguing to mull over during a partycasino.com visit, and while we cook. It’s always weird when you hear about how a movie could have turned out in the hands of a different maker.

“When I saw the film, I realised that I was not the right person to make the film.” Cameron has said. He acknowledges that Spielberg was the right man for the job, “Because he made a dinosaur movie for kids, and mine would have been Aliens with dinosaurs, and that wouldn’t have been fair.”

This is an obvious point, but just in case there’s any confusion on the matter, we’re pretty sure he means his movie would have been like the Ridley Scott movie in tone. Not that he would have added actual aliens into his version of Jurassic Park. Then again that would have been an interesting turn of events.

“Dinosaurs are for 8-year-olds. We can all enjoy it, too, but kids get dinosaurs and they should not have been excluded from that. His sensibility was right for that film. I’d have gone further, nastier, much nastier.”

He’s right. A nastier version of Jurassic Park probably wouldn’t have been as appealing for audiences, and certainly wouldn’t have become the blockbusting and family friendly classic it is today.

Still, it’s fun to speculate and wonder how it would have turned out, and just what nasty things Cameron would have made happen. I’m thinking a lot of blood.
