Three years ago most of us took a major dump when we found out about the Disney/Marvel buyout. On that day a lot of us comic book fans were unhappy with this and were thinking the worst of possibilities about it. So far everything is still well, Disney has for the most part let Marvel do it’s thing and the separation between Marvel and Disney is still relevant. Disney is Disney and Marvel is still it’s own entity also, I guess what it really boils down to is money.
It seems like the amount of 4 billion dollars hit’s the spot with both Marvel and Lucasfilm as Disney acquired Lucasfilm for closely the same amount as they paid for Marvel Comics. So who’s worried about this? Well, maybe we all are? But do we actually have anything to worry about? Disney so far hasn’t hurt Marvel, in my opinion the company has gotten better, and honestly what has George Lucas done lately that has actually been good?
The last three Star Wars films were awful, and how many re-masters of the original trilogy do we really need? Disney announced along with this buyout that the next Star Wars movie will be released in 2015. If you think about it, Star Wars has been part of Disney theme parks for a while now, so the Star Wars galaxy is already intertwined with the world of Disney. I don’t see this as a bad thing, I mean Disney loves princesses, and well Star Wars comes with both a queen and a princess. So what’s Disney’s next move? Maybe we’ll have Star Wars come back to the Marvel Universe a-la the classic Archie Goodwin and Carmine Infantino series, although Dark Horse Comics may have something to say about that..
