Elijah Wood Is A Maniac

A psychotic man, troubled by his childhood abuse, loose in NYC, kills young women and takes their scalps as trophies. Will he find the perfect woman in photographer Anna, and end his killing spree?

Remember the 1980 horror classic Maniac which starred Joe Spinell as Frank Zito the maniac killer with mommy issues? Well it looks like this year Hollywood is giving us a big surprise in the form of a remake of Maniac starring Elijah Wood as lady killer Frank Zito. Some how I just don’t see Elijah in this type of role, I guess we’ll just have to see how it fends when the movie comes out.

Below is both the new trailer starring Elijah Wood, and the original trailer which stars Joe Spinell, let me know which one you think will be the better movie. Let’s see some comments.

The new Maniac is written by Alexandre Aja, who directed
High Tension, so I have higher hopes for this than I do for most horror
remakes. The trailer looks good but the film looks slick; William Lustig’s
original is gritty, dark and cheap. Plus, Joe Spinell is one of the more
underrated actors of the ‘70s and even though he was in Taxi Driver, Cruising
and the Rocky movies Maniac is his shining moment.

I am confident Wood will do a good job. Remember his role as
Kevin in Sin City? He was excellent as a psychopath and he didn’t say one word.
Hopefully he can bring that creepiness to Maniac.

I’d be curious to know what inspired Elijah Wood to take on this role?
