Gainesville’s Satanik Recordings (alongisde Hot Graves) has put out one evil compilation. “Swamp Abyss Sorcery” features 11 head-slamming tracks of Florida’s current crop of up and coming heavies. I’m glad to say that these Florida bands, compared to, say, the 80’s and 90’s. Have come a VERY long way. I don’t know if all or some the bands recorded in the same studio, but I have to say, that I was VERY impressed with the recording and production of the tracks. They sound like they’ve been properly mastered, which is something I would have enjoyed while listening to certain 80’s thrash/death metal bands. As far as style, some bands, have a more groovy feel, like the opening track “Pale Rider” from Shroud Eater, while Hollow Leg’s track is more doomy and gloomy. Fatal’s track, especially the intro, has a rather Hellwitch feel to it, as well as other parts. Orbweaver’s track is rather schizophrenic, in its brutal/mellow/trippy approach. Extremely Rotten is insanely brutal. They could give Deicide or Krisiun a run for their money. For those that like noise, as opposed to convential metal, Holly Hunt’s track does that job rather well, again, using exceptional production values. I don’t think there’s a bad track in the bunch.
