Swamp Abyss Sorcery – The Now Sound Of Florida

Gainesville’s Satanik Recordings (alongisde Hot Graves) has put out one evil compilation. “Swamp Abyss Sorcery” features 11 head-slamming tracks of Florida’s current crop of up and coming heavies. I’m glad to say that these Florida bands, compared to, say, the 80’s and 90’s. Have come a VERY long way. I don’t know if all or some the bands recorded in the same studio, but I have to say, that I was VERY impressed with the recording and production of the tracks. They sound like they’ve been properly mastered, which is something I would have enjoyed while listening to certain 80’s thrash/death metal bands. As far as style, some bands, have a more groovy feel, like the opening track “Pale Rider” from Shroud Eater, while Hollow Leg’s track is more doomy and gloomy. Fatal’s track, especially the intro, has a rather Hellwitch feel to it, as well as other parts. Orbweaver’s track is rather schizophrenic, in its brutal/mellow/trippy approach. Extremely Rotten is insanely brutal. They could give Deicide or Krisiun a run for their money. For those that like noise, as opposed to convential metal, Holly Hunt’s track does that job rather well, again, using exceptional production values. I don’t think there’s a bad track in the bunch. Do yourself a favor, and listen for yourself at:

A proud Gen-Xer, evel steve has slammed danced at some classic punk rock shows of the mid 80's, funky raves and alternative shows from the 90's, as well as some of classic hardcore/death metal shows from this same time period. Eventually he moved to Portland, Oregon, where he has continued to live his hermetic, misanthropic existence, in search of weird movies, weird music, and making the occasional amateur sex video. evel steve is fluent in English AND Spanish, so you Mexican workers who talk bad about him, while he's in the room, watch out! evel steve also speaks Haitian Creole, and secretly works for the Ton-Ton Macoutes! evel steve also has a very tiny, but very odd video collection.Watch out for his horrible and disgusting movie and music reviews, coming to a psychotronic mind-meld near you!

Actually every band recorded on there own and sent their tracks to Myk from Hot Graves who then mastered them all to get the consistent sound you hear…
