Gandahar: The Light Years

Gandahar: The Light Years
Bob Weinstein, Harvey Weinstein, Isaac Asimov
Miramax
1988

This is the American release of Gandahar which was released on VHS in America in 1988, translated by Isaac Asimov and directed and produced by the Weinstein brothers and released under the title “The Light Years” This movie is OOP on VHS and the original French version was remastered and re-released in France in 2007. Their are no plans for an American DVD release any time soon. If you haven’t seen this movie it has a neat story and some wonderful art, and like I said it’s originally French so you’re going to see a few more boobies than you would usually encounter in a film, if this hurts your feelings just close your eyes and remember that’s it’s 2013. Oh and I almost forgot, while you watch this movie remember to keep telling yourself that James Cameron didn’t rip off the plot to make the movie Avatar.

An evil force from a 1000 years in the future begins to destroy an idyllic paradise, where the citizens are in perfect harmony with nature.

I’m 40 seconds into the film and I can already see how Cameron ripped this off.
