Not so much.

This movie proves how far behind Marvel animated is compared to DC.

Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & The Punisher
Marvel Comics/Marvel Studios/Disney Entertainment
2014

Avengers Confidential: Featuring the Punisher and Black Widow hardcore action adventure, great excitement not well received.
The Punisher a relentless vigilante with out mercy, he specializes in superior gunplay and agility; killing with extreme prejudice. Black Widow a top-notch assassin skilled in martial arts and high tech espionage, not to mention her sex appeal. Now add in the stylistics concept design of Yo Moriyama giving it the “anime style” we all have come to love in America, makes the question why did this movie not impress me, a very valid inquiry.
This movie proves how far behind Marvel animated is compared to DC. When I heard the news about Marvel teaming up with Sony for a few Anime style movies, my excitement went through the roof. But so far, the movies have yet to meet my expectations. The super cool cable channel G4 (R.I.P) started the wave with X-Men, The Wolverine, Iron-Man, and Blade anime airing on its station. All these shows failed to attract the audience that craved the super hero genre to team up with anime.
Iron Man rise of the Technovore and Avengers Confidential both seem to have fallen into the “bore me in the middle of the movie” category. Some viewers are going as far as saying “these failures are what prompted the selling of Marvel to Disney”. Avengers Confidential though lacking in the area of gripping the audience throughout the movie does have some bright spots.

For example the opening sequence with the Punisher and Black Widow encounter had a nice fight sequence. Though brief when the “big dogs” of the Avengers showed up they did make the movie worthwhile.
When it’s all said and done, I give this move a rank of 3 out of 10 for its effort in the action department. As for the story it could have been better and the build up could have been a little more interesting.
