IMG_20150327_130033The (Original) Craft Beer Club is exactly what it sounds like, a club where you receive a selection of different craft beers every month ( or every other month or quarterly). Every shipment includes small-brewed craft 12 12oz beers in 4 different styles (3 beers each) with a monthly newsletter with information on the included beers.

The box is the largest I’ve received yet. Seriously huge, according to UPS tracking it was over 18 pounds.

IMG_20150327_134706Bad Water Brewing Saison

From Phoenix Arizona’s Bad Water Brewing comes their “Saison”. This dark beer has a fruity smell to it but has almost a clove-like taste to it.

Also from Phoenix’s Bad Water Brewing is their Western Lager. The Western is lighter in color and has hints of coffee and caramel. I prefer this one over the Saison.

From Jack’s Abby Brewing (Framington, MA) is Hoponius Union. Hoponius Union is an Indian Pale Lager with a slightly bitter fruit taste.

Jack’s Abby’s other offering is their Leisure Time Lager. The taste is very citrus-like but without being sweet, there’s also hints of spices.

The bonus gift for a 3-month subscription is their Craft Beer Club-labeled bottle opener. I’m not a big expert on openers but this seems to be high quality and it did the job opening the included beers.

If you subscribe for 6 shipment you get both the bottle opener and this set of 4 tasting glasses. Tasting glasses are roughly half a pint and feature the Craft Beer Club logo.

While at first glance the Craft Beer Club subscription may be expensive at $39 per shipment, you have to consider the cost and weight of having this many beers carefully shipped via UPS instead of the Post Office. I enjoyed the variety of beers with getting two taste 6 beers (3 of each flavor) from two different breweries. The quality of the beers was solid, I liked all of them all except for the Saison. I also thought the included newsletters with stories from each brewery and a recipe were a nice touch.

If you’re a fan of craft beers and would like to sample breweries you might not otherwise have access to, you should check out The (Original) Craft Beer Club.
