IMG_20151001_012044Fantasy Crate is a monthly Magic: The Gathering subscription service that comes in two varieties. The first option is the “Magic Crate” that includes at least 3 MTG packs plus other Magic-related collectibles. And there’s the “Draft Crate” which includes 6 packs MTG packs and a MTG gear item like sleeves, dice or a deck box.

Fantasy Crate arrived in a large well-padded envelope.

September’s Magic Crate included 4 packs of Magic Origins and a limited edition playmat celebrating Fantasy Crate’s 1 year anniversary!

For the first crate in each of the past 3 Magic the Gathering expansions, Fantasy Crate has included a random Intro Pack from that set. With Battle for Zendikar being the most recent, i’m pretty pleased to have received the “Call of Blood” deck. “Call of Blood” is a black/white deck that’s vampire heavy and focuses on gaining life to trigger various abilities and bonuses.

The deck includes a nice fold-out strategy insert, a rule card and 2 Battle for Zendikar booster packs.

Let’s cut to the chase and get the exciting stuff out of the way first, I PULLED GIDEON, ALLY OF ZENDIKAR OUT OF ONE OF THE PACKS!

Considering i’m building a R/W/G Ally Rally deck, this was pretty exciting for me considering he’s perfect for the deck and one of the best cards in the entire expansion.

In addition to the 2 packs included in the intro pack, there’s 3 more packs of Battle for Zendikar!

Some excellent pulls from these packs including a Wasteland Strangler, Zada Hedron Grinder, Bring to Light and a foil Desolation Twin.

During a transition in between Magic expansions, Fantasy Crate includes a mix of both the new and previous set. This month included a pack of Magic Origins, Magic the Gathering’s final core set.

Nothing too exciting pulled with the rare being Scab-Clan Berserker.

IMG_20151022_015252Even if I didn’t pull Gideon, Ally of Zendikar out of one of the boosters in the intro pack, this still would’ve been a great Magic Crate. $31 shipped for a brand new deck box, 6 booster packs and a pretty fun intro deck is a fantastic value.
