The Florida-based IndieBox is a subscription box meets a video game of the month club. Each month they offer a different and new game (always playable on PC, Linux & Mac). With a goal of “bringing back the box” you get a custom box, manual and other goodies like posters, keychains, stickers (varying monthly).

August’s IndieBox featured a fun puzzle game and some neat extras, so i’m pretty excited to see what September has to offer.

CD soundtrack with sleeve featuring game artwork.

IMG_20141002_230454Combat Medal

This is pretty impressive. It’s a replica combat medallion featuring the game’s logo. Plastic? No. It’s real metal (maybe brass?)!

IMG_20141003_134233Foam Plane

I used to buy the Balsa version of these all the time as a kid. Super fun to watch my cat run towards it after it crashes.

IMG_20141002_230535Iron-On Patch

An extremly high quality embroidered iron-on patch featuring the Luftrausers logo.

IMG_20141002_230640Custom “Luftrausers” IndieBox Sticker

A sticker of the Indiebox logo with the Luftrausers coloring and ships. Indiebox would like to see pictures of where the the stickers end up, so tag your photos with #BringBackTheBox.

The first issue of the IndieBox newsletter.  Keeping the manuals strictly about the game from now on, the additional information is moved to the new newsletter.

Instruction Manual

High quality old school Instruction Manual complete with area for game notes.

IMG_20141003_143352USB Game Cartridge

Plastic cases holding the game “cartridge”. Sticker on the outside of the case has the Steam key. Steam keys are included when possible but are not guaranteed to be included for every game.

USB Game Cartridge is the size of a credit card and flips open to reveal the USB. Instructions are included for opening the card.

Luftrausers is pretty much a side-scrolling version of 1942. It’s fun but the controls definitely take some getting used to. Well that or i’m just not very good at controlling the plane.

Back to shooting battleships!

While Luftrausers may retail on steam for $9.99, for less than an extra 10 bucks you’re getting in insane amount of value. The foam plane, the high quality patch, the realistic combat medallion and a full cd soundtrack? Yes!

Last months box was great but this went above and beyond. If you’re into video games and subscription boxes, i’d highly recommend Indiebox.

Disclosure: A complimentary IndieBox was given for review purposes. All opinions are my own and no compensation was received.
