Wolverine & The X-Men #17
Marvel Comics
Jason Aaron & Mike Allred, Laura Allred
2012
Wolverine & The X-Men #17 is one of the best comics I have read in a while. In this issue we find out that Wolverine has hired Doop, one of Marvel Comics more laughable, but overpowered characters to work the front desk and also do some dirty work for the Jean Grey School For Gifted Students. It makes sense to bring Doop in to the swing of things, after all Mike Allred is one this characters creators.

Not too many people follow the follies of Doop, when looking back one has to remember that Doop defeated Thor in the battle for Doops brain between the Avengers and the X-Statix. Doop managed to take Mjolnir and and duplicate it over many times while confounding Thor and still hiding the real Mjolnir within one of his bodies “Doop Worlds”.

In Wolverine & The X-Men, Doop is hired too keep things and people in order, in and around the school area. Doop manages to take out the League of Nazi Bowlers and play handy man for a cougar on the committee who is trying to close the Jean Grey School, Doop also manages to go from committee member to committee member and somehow manage to change their mind about the school. Maybe he’s a good pitch man?
Taking a look at Doop’s work desk at the school, Doop some how has a Tony Award, the Ultimate Nulifier, Devil Dinosaur Beer, a bra, X-Statix The Movie, and a large pile of money just laying around on the front desk while he, or uh she(I’m not really sure if Doop is male or female since it’s revealed in the X-Statix that Doop likes both men and women). Plus Doop has no lower torso, and no upper body, Doop is basically a green blob with arms, eyes and a mouth who can kick your ass!

Anyway in this issue, Dethlok is basically reaming Wolverine over hiring Doop, and wants to know the reason why, Wolverine just tells him not to worry about why, and let it go; then at a board meeting with Wolverine, Ice Man, Kitty Pride and Rachel Grey, Doop simply falls asleep, begins to slobber at the meeting table and throughs up a bowling ball that was left over from the battle with the Nazi Bowlers.

Besides Wolverine, the three others at the meeting have no idea what’s going on with Doop, and don’t know about his back to back battle with Howard the Duck against the barbarian robots, or the the fact that Doop is also the lunch lady at the school, and so much more! This issue is packed with so many Doop antics, and all the stuff that Wolverine has to go through to hire Doop is amazing! If you’re a fan of Wolverine, X-Men, and Mike Allred and his X-Statix, then this is the issue for you. I know this review is late, but this issue is still out there and can be found at your LCS.
