Why Wasn’t War Machine In The Avengers Movie?

As the world now knows Marvel Comics has exploded into the Hollywood movie scene with it’s last few films, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, The Avengers and the Spider-man films. I could go on mentioning previous films, but as of late it doesn’t seem like they are too relevant in the Marvel Movie Universe anymore.

War Machine was fully introduced in Iron Man 2, and Marvel put together many cool battle scenes with both Iron Man and War Machine, I’m not a fan of War Machine, but even I have to admit the character was done up pretty well. So why wasn’t War Machine in The Avengers movie? In my opinion it’s because he’s not an original Avengers teammate or maybe because The Avengers don’t need two very similar characters on their roster, but that’s just my thoughts on it.

If you want to know why, Marvel Comics has just announced that this will be covered in the two issue limited series “Prelude To Iron Man 3” by Christos Gage, Ramon Rasonos and Will Pilgrim which comes out in 2013. From the brief description we do know that this series takes place during The Avengers movie, and after. What was War Machine doing during the alien invasion? I guess we’ll have to be patient to find out. This series is also set to release in trade paperback.
