Wizard World – Fort Lauderdale 2015

Hi all, and welcome to another one of my con reviews. This time I’m covering the Wizard World con scene at Ft. Lauderdale, which was held at the Ft. Lauderdale Convention Center located before you enter into Port Everglades. This time it was much easier to gain entry for congoers because they finally completed the construction expansions on the port itself, so that the security gate into the port was further back for those wanting to take cruises or for other port business. Previously you had to show I.D. at the old gate location in order to gain entry into the parking for the center itself, which was a bit of a hassle for congoers or anyone attending events at the center itself, esp. if you didn’t have your needed I.D. on you. Anyhow, on to the con itself.

This con, after a 5 year hiatus (last being held in Miami in 2010 after a last minute cancellation by the promoters in 2012 for their second show), came back to show they can have a show here in South Florida. Although there were several last minute cancellations by Media guests such as Norman Reedus (Walking Dead) and Eve Myles (Dr. Who, Torchwood), the show still had many more guests to offer, such as Dean Cain (Superman:The New Adventures of Lois and Clark), WWE Hall of Famer Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat (Saturday 12-3), and of course the main guest: Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner. They also had Ernie Hudson (Winston Zedmore-Ghostbusters), Lou Ferigno (Hercules, Incredible Hulk) and other media guests to round out this group. On the Comic guests side of things, they had Neal Adams (various DC and Marvel books ranging from Batman, Superman, Green Lantern/Green Arrow, Xmen et al), Mike Grell (Green Arrow- DC), Jose Delbo (DC- Wonder Woman, Marvel- Transformers), Greg Horn (cover artist- various DC and Marvel projects), Michael Golden (Star Wars, Micronauts, G.I. Joe- Marvel),and the special guest: Rob Liefeld (DC- Hawk and Dove miniseries (1988) and monthly (NEW 52);Marvel- New Mutants 87-100, X-force 1-9,11; Maximum Press- Battlestar Galactica). They also had cosplay guests Ellei Marie, Danica Rockwood(formerly known as Dahlia Thomas), Envy Us, Nerd Bunny, and a new cosplay guest: Surely Shirley.

Besides the artists and featured guests as always, there were several booths selling things ranging from comics, to dvds, to toys, to even a special booth that caught my attention: Pitbullshirts.com. This company, based in Broward County, takes 10% of every sale of their various t-shirts and gives it to various pitbull organizations including rescues- You should give their website a look, because this a great organization to support if you love pitbulls. Overall, this show was great and I hope to see them here again for next year. Until next con, this is JDOC reminding you always that comments are welcome to improve my reviews for you, the readers.
